“Standing on the plains of Africa, seeing the acres of orphans, even strong souls have despaired.
But you have seen the children reach for hands no longer there,
and extended your own hands,
full of hope.”
Mary Fisher, Special Representative for UNAIDS: the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS

Q Fund founder Chellie Kew is a firm believer in the philosophy that all humans are one people. A “global citizen” who has lived and traveled all over the world, Kew is also a lifelong photojournalist. While living in South Africa in 1997, she came face-to-face with the plight of millions of orphaned African children. She used the lens of her camera to recount their courageous and heartrending story in her book, African Journal: A Child's Continent—the inspiring narrative of how these children taught her the true meaning of love.
Chellie was recognized as a Giraffe Hero for her work with African children.
Kew’s keen ability to assess the long-term needs of these children led her to establish The Q Fund in 2000. Her non-profit organization has since supported numerous projects in Africa and Asia, including the construction of the Chimoza Community School in Ndola, Zambia and the Ngererit School in Kenya. In 2007, the lives of over 40,000 people were positively impacted by Q Fund programs.
Today, The Q Fund has developed partnerships with numerous like-minded organizations and individuals and is spearheading a collaborative effort to build the Mucinshi School - a world-class high school in Zambia which will become the prototype for a scalable, replicable model that can be used to help children
and communities in need anywhere in the world.
